Prices for bottled water vary wildly, but a 2013 study by the Beverage Marketing Corporation states an average price of $1.21 per bottle. Purchase quantity, region and the type of supplier all affect the cost of a bottle of water.
The study further notes that most consumers prefer to purchase bottled water in bulk from grocery stores, which costs significantly less per bottle. A consumer who drinks eight cups of bottled water per day spends an average of $1,400 over the course of a year. In contrast, drinking eight cups of tap water each day for a year has an average cost of less than $0.50.
