Miller Lite is a pale lager that was first developed in 1967 by biochemist Joseph L. Owades while he was working for New York's Rheingold Brewery. It was released to the test markets of Springfield, Ill., Knoxville, Tenn., and San Diego, Calif. in 1973 under the name "Lite Beer From Miller". The beer was released nationally in 1975 and marketed to a primary male demographic.
