Cut the top and bottom of the watermelon away using a large, sharp knife. Sit the watermelon up on one end and cut the rind away from the fruit, using vertical slices that follow the curve of the melon. Once the rind is removed, slice the flesh into chunks or cubes.
Add the watermelon cubes to a blender. Sweeten the slushie to taste using sugar or an alternative sweetener. Add some freshly squeezed citrus juice such as lemon or lime, using one part of citrus for every six parts of watermelon.
Begin blending the mixture, gradually adding ice using a one-to-one ratio of ice to watermelon. If desired, freeze the watermelon cubes overnight and use less ice for more intense watermelon flavor. Blend the slushie until it's smooth and all the ingredients are combined.
Thin the slushie by adding water to achieve the desired consistency. Alternatively, transform the watermelon slushie into an adult beverage by adding alcohol such as vodka, gin or tequila. Add approximately one shot of alcohol for every 12 ounces of watermelon cubes.
