To make a tater tot casserole, cook one pound of ground beef and layer it under a pound of frozen tater tots in a 9 x 13 baking dish. Next, mix one can each of cream of mushroom, cream of chicken and evaporated milk and pour over top of the dish. Bake the casserole in the oven at 350 F for about an hour to help meld all of the flavors.
Tater Tot Casserole
When short on energy and in need of a dish to feed a hungry family, turn to this tater tot casserole. The dish can be thrown together using some very commonly found ingredients.

- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. tater tots
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can cream of chicken soup
- 1 can evaporated milk
- Brown the meat
- Layer the casserole
- Add the soup and bake the casserole
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium high heat. Drain off the excess fat into a heat proof container and toss out.
Scoop the browned beef into a 13- by 9-inch casserole pan. Top with the tater tots. Make sure that the tater tots cover the meat from end to end.
Mix together the cream of chicken and mushroom soup with the evaporated milk in a bowl. Mix well to thoroughly combine. Pour the mixture over top of the tater tots and beef. Place the tater tot casserole in to the oven for 1 hour. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
There are several variations for this recipe. Some recipes call for adding 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese onto the meat mixture in the baking dish before adding the tater tots. Other recipes double the amount of meat and use a can of cheese soup in addition to the cream of mushroom soup. Adding 1 cup of mixed vegetables or green beans to the recipe is also a common variation.
