Make sweet and sour cabbage by cooking 3/4 teaspoon of caraway seeds and 1 minced garlic clove in 2 tablespoons of butter at medium heat. After one minute, add 2 pounds of carrot pieces, 1/2 cup of water, 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar and 3 tablespoons of brown sugar. Bring everything to a simmer for 15 minutes. Add 4 cups of shredded red cabbage, and cook it for five minutes before serving the cabbage with lemon juice and fresh dill.
To make sweet and sour green cabbage with bacon, cook 4 slices of bacon cut into pieces in a Dutch oven at medium-high for six minutes. Remove the bacon, and add 1 thinly sliced yellow onion and 1 cut head of green cabbage. Cook the vegetables for 10 minutes, and stir in 1/4 cup of cider vinegar, 1/4 cup of sugar and 3 tablespoons of soy sauce. After 10 more minutes of cooking, remove the cabbage from the heat, and fold in the cooked bacon.
Make another recipe by boiling 1 head of thin red cabbage in 1 inch of water for 15 minutes and then draining the water. After removing the cabbage, add 4 slices of bacon and 1 sliced onion, and cook. Remove all but the bacon fat from the skillet and then stir in 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/4 cup of water and 3 tablespoons of white vinegar. Season with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of pepper. Add the cabbage and bacon back into the skillet, heating the cabbage dish through before serving.
