To make spicy crackers, start with a good recipe, such as Guy Fieri's spicy oyster crackers recipe available on the Food Network website. This recipe takes around 2 1/2 hours to make from start to finish, including five minutes to prepare, 25 minutes to cook and two hours of waiting.
Start making the spicy crackers by preheating the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Gather up all of the spices, such as 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon fresh black pepper and 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic. Some other spices needed are 1/2 teaspoon granulated onion, 1 teaspoon crumbled and dried parsley, 1/2 teaspoon dried, crumbled thyme and 1/2 teaspoon of dried and crumbled dill. Other ingredients include 4 tablespoons melted, unsalted butter, 1/4 cup canola oil and a 16-ounce package of salt-free oyster crackers.
After melting the butter, mix in the oil and spices. Make sure the spices are mixed well. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, and spread the oyster crackers out on it. After pouring the spice mixture over the crackers, mix them together as evenly as possible.
Bake the crackers for 25 minutes. During the cooking time, use a spatula to move the crackers around the sheet. After done cooking, place the crackers on a wire sheet, and let them cool for an hour until completely cool.
