Make spiced crab apples using seasonings such as cloves, allspice and cinnamon. Make a syrup to coat the apples, and store them in jars. Some ingredients needed for spiced crab apples include a stick of cinnamon, whole cloves, whole allspice, crab apples with stems, sugar, vinegar and water.
Add the clove, cinnamon and allspice to a cheese cloth bag, tying it loosely. Make sure you wash and drain the apples thoroughly. Remove blossoms and pierce the end of the crab apple where the blossom is located. Use a sterilized needle for this as it keeps the skin of the crab apples from popping open.
In a stockpot, add vinegar, water and sugar to the pot, then place the spice bag inside the water. Let this mixture come to a boil, stirring often. The syrup should be able to coat a metal spoon when it is complete. Once the syrup is ready, remove the pot from the heat, and let it cool down. Place the crab apples inside the syrup, and turn the pot on to low heat. Let the apples simmer until they are tender, as they get coated by the syrup. Remove and throw away the spice bag.
Put the completed spiced crab apples into sterilized jars that are hot, and add extra hot syrup to them. Leave the jars in a hot water bath for about 20 minutes.
