To make simple Spanish coffee, pour tia maria coffee liqueur and bacardi rum into a coffee mug before filling it with hot coffee. Top it with whipped cream and a cherry.
An alternative and slightly more difficult recipe involves igniting the contents of the coffee mug to make the Spanish coffee. Some of the ingredients of this Spanish coffee recipe include a vanilla bean, 1 ounce of cognac, a wedge of lime, coffee, sugar and orange liqueur. Alternative ingredients include triple sec, rum and Kahlúa.
A few days before preparing the Spanish coffee, split the vanilla bean in half and place it with the sugar in a container. To prepare this coffee, warm 2 brandy snifters. Take the wedge of lime and run it around the edge of the glass to wet its rim. Dip the glass into the vanilla sugar so that the rim has sugar on it. Pour orange liqueur into the glass and light it on fire to caramelize the vanilla sugared rim. Douse the flame with a small amount of coffee.
Warm the cognac, almond liqueur and coffee liqueur, and pour into the two snifters. Top with more coffee and garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and a cherry or ground nutmeg.
