Seven-layer salad is easily made using Miracle Whip, lettuce, frozen peas, onion, a green bell pepper, hard-boiled eggs, sugar, shredded cheese and bacon. In addition, a bowl measuring at least 13 by 9 inches in diameter is required.
To begin, wash half a head of lettuce and shred it. Place the shredded lettuce in a clean 13-inch by 9-inch bowl. Add a layer of 1 1/2 cups of frozen peas on top of the lettuce. For the next step, slice or chop 1/2 an onion, and add it on top of the peas. Chop 1/4 of a bell pepper into fine segments, and add it as a new layer over the onion.
Peel and slice two hard-boiled eggs. If smaller pieces are desired, chop the eggs instead of slicing them. Add them on top of the layer of pepper. In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup of Miracle Whip and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Spread it on top of the egg layer, making sure to reach all of the edges.
Cover the spread layer with a 1/2 cup of shredded cheese. Follow that with 4 slices worth of crumbled, cooked bacon bits.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or foil and place in the refrigerator. The seven-layer salad will be ready to serve the next day. For a lower-fat recipe, use Miracle Whip Light.
