Although Paula Deen doesn't provide a fried apple recipe, she does provide a fried apple pie recipe that you make in a skillet or a deep-fryer. To make the Food Network's fried apples recipe, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet, and then add in 2 tablespoons for brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 pinch of salt and 2 sliced Granny Smith apples. Cook the apples at medium heat for 10 minutes.
To make Paula Deen's fried apple pie, roll out 2 can of large buttermilk biscuits into large circles. On half of the biscuits, place 1 heaping tablespoon of apple pie filling. Place the rest of the biscuits on the fruit filled ones and pinch the edges shut with the tines of a fork to make mini apple pies. Seal the pinched edges with a little water to keep the fruit filling from escaping through the seams during cooking.
Place a cast iron skillet filled with 1/2-inch of oil in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and then remove the skillet to the stove. Add a few pies at a time to the hot oil, and fry them for two minutes on each side. Sprinkle the pies with a cinnamon sugar mixture made from 1/4 cup of sugar combined with 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon.
