To begin, beat two eggs in a small bowl, then mix in 1/4 cup of water. In a separate bowl, mix 1 and 1/2 cups of Italian seasoned bread crumbs with 1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt. In a third bowl, combine 2/3 cup of all-purpose flour with 1/3 cup of cornstarch. Take one 16-ounce package of mozzarella cheese sticks and open unwrap each stick, if necessary.
Pour 1 quart of oil into a large, heavy saucepan, and heat until 365 degrees Fahrenheit.
Arrange the bowls in the following order: the flour mixture, the egg mixture and then the cornstarch mixture. Once the oil is heated, dip each mozzarella stick individually into the flour, then the egg, the cornstarch and into the frying oil. Fry each stick until it is golden brown or for about 30 seconds. Remove from the oil and place onto a paper towel to remove excess oil.
For a healthier alternative, make baked mozzarella sticks. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the coated sticks for five to six minutes, or until heated thoroughly. Enjoy either alternative with marinara dipping sauce.Learn more about Dairy & Eggs
