To make an orange gelatin salad that serves six to eight people, combine an 11-ounce can of drained mandarin oranges, an 8-ounce can of drained crushed pineapple and 1 6-ounce package of orange gelatin mix. Mix the ingredients well, and chill for 30 minutes. Next, add 16 ounces of cottage cheese and 8 ounces of thawed frozen whipped topping. Chill the salad before serving.
Alternatively, prepare Kraft’s orange Jell-o salad recipe by combining two small boxes of orange-flavored Jell-o gelatin with 2 cups of boiled water, stirring the mixture to dissolve the gelatin. Add 1 small can of concentrated orange juice, 2 small cans of mandarin oranges in their juice, and 1 15-ounce can of crushed pineapple. Refrigerate the mixture. For the topping, mix 1 small box of lemon pudding mix with 1 cup of milk. Fold in 1 8-ounce tub of Cool Whip whipped topping mix. Spread this mixture on top the Jell-o mixture. Refrigerate the Jell-o salad until ready to serve.
Another alternative is buttermilk orange salad. To make this recipe, put 1 8 1/2-ounce can of crushed pineapple in its syrup in a large saucepan, and bring it to a boil. Remove it from the heat, and stir in 1 6-ounce pack of orange gelatin. Allow the mixture to come to room temperature, and then stir in 2 cups of buttermilk. Fold in 8 ounces of whipped topping and 1/4 cup of chopped pecans. Pour the mixture into an 8-cup mold. Chill the mold for four hours or overnight.
