How Do You Make Indian Fry Bread Tacos?

Indian fry bread tacos are made with flour, baking powder, salt, water, ground beef, taco seasoning, lettuce, tomato, salsa and sour cream. These ingredients cover both the bread, which will need to be fried, along with the toppings for the taco toppings.

The toppings for the tacos can be changed as desired or added too to fit individual taste. The salsa or sour cream are completely optional or possibly served on the side to give guest options. Bell or hot peppers or cheese are common taco toppings that can also be added to the Indian bread tacos.

  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water
  • Chopped lettuce
  • Chopped tomato
  • Salsa
  • Sour cream
  • Oil for frying
  1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Heat 1/3 cup of the water and stir the hot water in until the mix forms into a dough. Let rest for at least 1 hour.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a skillet until well done. Add the taco seasoning and the remaining 1/3 cup of water. Allow the mix to simmer for 10 minutes uncovered.
  3. Divide bread in half and roll into 4-inch pieces. Heat oil to 350 F and fry the bread until golden brown. Drain, top as desired and serve. Makes two servings.
