- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Toppings such as icing, sprinkles, colored sugar or small candies
- Mix the dry ingredients
- Mix the moist ingredients
- Mix the dry and moist ingredients together
- Chill the dough
- Prepare the oven and baking sheets
- Roll and cut out the dough
- Bake and decorate the cookies
Mix the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, use a hand mixer to cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture.
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the moist ingredients with a hand mixer set to low.
Split the dough into two balls and flatten them. Cover the dough disks with plastic wrap and put them in the freezer for 20 minutes.
Cover one or more baking sheets with some parchment paper. Turn on the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Take the dough out of the freezer and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Flour two sheets of parchment paper and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough between the two sheets until it is 1/8 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out the dough.
Let the cookies bake for 10 to 18 minutes until the edges are a golden brown color. Let them cool and then decorate them with icing, sprinkles, colored sugar and candies.
