Making coleslaw at home requires only six ingredients, plus some salt and pepper, and takes less than 20 minutes to prepare. The ingredients include shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, mayonnaise, white wine vinegar, celery seed and sugar to add some extra flavor to the dressing.
To make a medium-sized bowl of coleslaw that creates around 12 servings, gather six cups of shredded cabbage, one cup of shredded carrots, one cup of mayonnaise, one-quarter cup of white vinegar, one teaspoon of celery seeds and one-quarter cup of sugar. A large bowl is also useful in order to mix all of the ingredients together as well as a smaller bowl to make the dressing mixture.
First add the cabbage and carrots into the larger bowl. Next, the dressing mix is made in the smaller bowl by combining the mayonnaise, white vinegar, celery seed, sugar and the salt and pepper. After stirring the dressing mixture add it to the larger bowl containing the shredded cabbage and carrot mixture and stir. Once stirred the coleslaw is done being prepared and it should be placed in the refrigerator for one to two hours in order to chill. Once chilled, the coleslaw is ready to be served and eaten.
