Cream the butter and sugars in a large bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in applesauce, eggs and vanilla extract. Also, preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
Remove any black gumdrops and save for another use. Combine the rest of the gumdrops with pecans, dates, raisins, cherries and 1 cup flour. Mix together cinnamon, pie spice, baking soda and the rest of the flour.
Add the cinnamon mixture gradually to the creamed mixture, then fold in the gumdrop mixture.
Pour the mixture into two greased 9-inch by 5-inch loaf pans and bake for 45 minutes. Cover the loaves with foil and bake 45 more minutes. Cool the loaves for 10 minutes before removing them from the pans.
