Make green bean casserole by combining 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of soy sauce, a dash of pepper and 2/3 cup of French fried onions. Mix with 4 cups of cooked green beans. Bake at 350 F for 25 minutes.
For extra crunch, stir the green bean mixture after cooking, sprinkle another 2/3 cup of French fried onions on top and bake for another five minutes. The casserole fills a 1 1/2-quart dish.
To add color, add 1 cup of diced red bell peppers to the bean mixture before cooking. You can also replace the cream of mushroom soup in this recipe with condensed cream of celery soup or condensed cream of chicken soup.
For another variation, thaw and drain 20 ounces of frozen French-cut green beans. Stir together the beans, 1 1/2 cups of mild cheddar or cheddar jack cheese, 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 teaspoon of seasoned or garlic pepper. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of cheese and 3/4 cup of coarsely crushed croutons on top. Bake for five more minutes until the cheese melts.
