To make goetta, gather 3 pounds of ground pork, 5 cups of pinhead oatmeal, 2 cups of chopped onions, salt, pepper and 6 cups of water. Put some salt and pepper in the water and bring it to boil. Add the pinhead oatmeal and stir regularly, and then let the mixture simmer for 90 minutes.
Mix the ground pork with the onions in a separate bowl, and then add the mixture into the oatmeal mixture. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2 hours, and stir the mixture often. When ready, place the mixture in a baking pan and allow it to cool. Make sure it is semi-solid before putting it in a refrigerator to cool for 12 hours. It is advisable to wrap the meat in waxed foil paper or put it in a bread pan before storing it in the refrigerator.
The frozen meat can then be sliced and fried in hot oil until brown. Some cooks believe that goetta is best fried with bacon. Adjust the procedure by boiling the meat first before chopping it into small pieces. Add some spices into the mixture if the salt and pepper are not enough for your taste buds. Some cooks even include ground beef instead of pork.
