To make fresh apple cake, combine apples and nuts with flour, eggs, sugar and oil, and bake these ingredients in a Bundt pan. Many people enjoy topping apple cake with a sweet glaze made from sugar and milk.
- Prepare the ingredients
To make an apple cake, chop two large Granny Smith apples and 1 cup of toasted walnuts or pecans. Also measure out 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon, vanilla extract, baking soda and salt, 2 cups of sugar, 1.25 cups of vegetable oil and three eggs. If you would like to top your cake with a glaze, also gather 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk.
- Mix together dry and wet ingredients
First, combine the apples with the walnuts or pecans, vanilla and cinnamon. Also combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a different bowl. In a third bowl, stir together the oil, sugar and eggs. Add in the flour mixture to the oil mixture and combine this with the apples. Pour the batter into a greased Bundt pan. If you do not have a Bundt pan, this cake can be baked in any regular baking dish.
- Bake the cake
Bake the cake for 1 hour and 30 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit. The cake is finished baking when a toothpick inserted into the thickest part of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool before serving.
- Make the glaze
If you would like to glaze the cake, stir together the powdered sugar and milk until a thin paste is formed. If necessary, add more milk. Pour the glaze over the cooled cake, and serve.
