To make flaxseed gel, you must heat a mixture of water and flax seeds, strain the mixture, and add aloe vera or essential oils, if desired to the liquid. Let the mixture cool before refrigerating. Making the gel takes approximately 30 minutes.
- Prepare the ingredients
Measure 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds. Aloe vera or any essential oil may be added for scent, if desired. If using them, measure 2 ounces of aloe vera or 2 to 3 drops of essential oil.
- Boil water
Place water in a pan over medium heat, and boil.
- Add flaxseeds to the water
Once the water comes to a boil, add the flaxseeds all at once, and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir the mixture frequently to prevent the flaxseeds from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Strain the mixture
Pass the mixture through a strainer. Do this step quickly, as the gel will start to thicken once it's off the heat.
- Add the optional ingredients for scent
While the mixture is still warm, add in the aloe vera or the essential oil, and mix well.
- Cool and store the mixture
Let the mixture cool completely, and then store in a jar. Refrigerate the mixture.
