Make dipping oils for bread by mixing olive oil with herbs and spices. To prepare Italian Bread Dipping Oil, combine eight twists of a sea salt grinder, 1 teaspoon of grated Parmesan cheese, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/8 teaspoon of crushed red pepper. Pour 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil over the spice mixture. Blend all ingredients by gently swirling the dish.
To make herb dipping oil, follow the Italian Bread Dipping Oil recipe, but substitute 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning or rosemary leaves for the red pepper. Another herb dipping oil is made by combining 1/4 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1/4 teaspoon of dried basil and 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of grated Parmesan cheese over the mixture before serving.
To make a recipe that uses both fresh and dried spices, put 1 tablespoon of minced basil, 1 tablespoon of chopped Italian parsley, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon each of dried thyme, oregano and ground black pepper into a food processor. Add 1/2 teaspoon of ground sea salt, 1/2 teaspoon of chopped rosemary and 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes. Process the ingredients until they are all about the same size.
Once processed, remove the spices and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil and 1/8 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. For each serving, combine 1 1/2 teaspoons of the spice mixture with an additional 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil.
