Make Crockpot apple cider by placing 1 peeled orange, 10 cored and quartered Honeycrisp apples, 3 cinnamon sticks, 2 teaspoons of ground cloves, and between 2 tablespoons and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar in a slow cooker. Pour in just enough water to cover everything, and cook the cider on low for at least six hours. Mash the fruit, and cook it for one more hour before straining out and keeping the liquid as the cider.
To make a spicier Crockpot apple cider, combine 1 quart of apple juice and 1/4 cup of red hot candies in a slow cooker, and cook them on low until the red hots completely dissolve. Serve the cider warm or cold.
Another recipe calls for 12 washed and chopped small apples, 2 cinnamon sticks, 15 whole cloves and 1 whole nutmeg. Place all the ingredients in a slow cooker, and cover everything with water. Cook the cider on high for four to eight hours before straining out the pulp. Stir in maple syrup to taste before serving.
Make some hard cider by combining 3 quarts of apple cider in a slow cooker with 1/2 cup of light brown sugar; 1 sliced orange; and a sachet containing 1 peeled 2-inch piece of ginger, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 teaspoons of whole cloves, 2 teaspoons of whole allspice, and 1 teaspoon of black peppercorns. Cook the cider at high for an hour and on low for four hours before adding 1 1/2 cups of gin if desired.
