Make your own chocolate-covered pretzel rods by melting chocolate, then dipping the rods into the molten chocolate. Use chocolate chips or broken bits of semi-sweet chocolate candy bars for best results. Chocolate discs designed for candy making may be used as well.
To make enough melted chocolate for a bag of 36 pretzel rods, start with 12 ounces of chocolate. Place the chocolate in a glass measuring cup and heat in the microwave, pausing the microwave after 30 seconds to stir the chocolate. Microwave it for an additional 15 seconds or as needed; the chocolate melts more as it is stirred. Tilt the measuring cup and dip one pretzel rod at a time into the liquid chocolate, twirling each rod to coat at least half of it all the way around.
Place each dipped rod on a sheet of wax paper on top of a cookie sheet to cool and harden completely. Place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator to speed up the hardening process. For more colorful pretzels, add sprinkles or a drizzle of white chocolate atop each pretzel before the chocolate coating hardens on the pretzels. Coat some of the pretzel rods with white chocolate, using the dark chocolate as a drizzle, for a varied effect.
