How Do You Make Chili?

]Chili is the ultimate one-pot meal, where all of the ingredients are placed into the pot at different times in the cooking process. Ingredients include ground beef, tomato sauce, kidney and pinto beans, corn flour and plenty of seasonings.


Make up this authentic Tex-Mex chili recipe for dinner or to serve over top of potatoes or spaghetti. It should be prepared when you have plenty of time for the flavors to cook together.

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c. corn flour
  • 15 oz. kidney beans
  • 15 oz. pinto beans
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. each cumin, oregano and salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  1. Brown the beef
  2. Brown the ground beef and garlic cloves over medium heat in a large stock pot. Drain off the excess fat.

  3. Simmer the chili
  4. Add in the tomato sauce and seasonings. Stir well, cover and cook on low heat for about 1 hour. Add 1/2 cup of water, if needed, to keep the chili from getting dry.

  5. Add the corn flour and beans
  6. Stir the corn flour together with another 1/2 cup of water in a bowl. When mixed, pour into the chili. Incorporate the corn flour into the chili until well mixed. Pour in the beans and simmer for another 10 minutes. Serve with additional toppings like onions, cheese, lime juice or tortilla chips.
