To make a cake with cherry pie filling either bake the filling with a cake mix or use it as a topping to the cake. When used as a topping, the cherry filling gives extra moisture to the cake after it has been baked.
To make a chocolate-covered cherry cake, mix 1 package cake mix, 1 can cherry pie filling, 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon almond extract with an electric mixer for three minutes. Pour the batter into an oiled pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the pan from the oven.
To make the glaze, boil 1 cup sugar, 1/3 butter and 1/3 cup milk in a saucepan for one minute, stirring constantly. Remove pan from the heat, and stir in 1 package of chocolate chips. Pour the glaze over the cake, and let cool for 20 minutes.
