Baked spaghetti involves alternating layers of a pasta, egg, and Parmesan cheese mixture with layers of a cottage cheese, mozzarella and meat sauce mixture. The resulting dish is baked for approximately one hour.
To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9- by 13-inch baking pan. Boil a large pot of lightly-salted water and add 16 ounces of spaghetti. Cook for about 12 minutes.
Cook 1 pound ground beef and 1 cup chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain, then stir in one 32-ounce jar meatless spaghetti sauce and 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt.
Next, whisk two eggs, 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 5 tablespoons melted butter in a bowl. Add boiled spaghetti to mixture and toss so that noodles are coated. Add half the spaghetti to the greased baking dish. Then top it with a layer consisting of 1 cup small-curd cottage cheese, 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese and half the meat sauce mixture. The layers are then repeated, for a total of four layers.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake for another 20 to 25 minutes, until the cheese is lightly browned.
