To make an apple pie, firmly place a disc of dough in a glass pie plate, add the filling ingredients, and place another disc of dough over the mix. Bake the pie for 45 minutes at 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
An alternative to making the pie crust is to buy refrigerated crusts. You can mix your own filling or purchase it. To make pie crust dough, fill a bowl with 2 1/2 cups of flour, 4 teaspoons of sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and whisk the ingredients together. Dice 14 tablespoons of cold butter, and work it into the mix by hand. Beat 1 large egg with cold water, add it to the mix, and stir. Mold the dough into a disc shape, and refrigerate it for an hour until chilled. Cut the dough in half, and mold each half into a disc.
To make the filling, pour 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in a bowl. Add 6 thinly sliced apples, 3/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 3/4 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg. Use a spoon to transfer the filling mix to the pie crust. When placing the second disc of dough on top, wrap the extra dough under the edge of the bottom crust, and seal it. Cut slits into the top crust. Bake the pie until golden brown, and let it cool for two hours.
