The main ingredients in a typical coconut macaroon recipe are sweetened shredded coconut, egg whites and sugar. Coconut macaroon recipes may also include small amounts of salt, vanilla extract or almond extract for extra flavor.
To make coconut macaroons, stir all the ingredients together in a bowl. Drops portions of the mixture on a lined or greased baking sheet, allocating 1 or 2 inches of space in between each portion to allow for expansion during the baking process. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes to bake coconut macaroons in an oven set at 300 to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the coconut macaroons to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
