A large egg will be soft-boiled in 4 to 5 minutes, medium-boiled in 6 minutes and hard-boiled in 15 minutes. A medium egg will be soft-boiled in 3 minutes, medium-boiled in 5 minutes and hard-boiled in 12 minutes.
Place the eggs in a single layer in a large saucepan with enough cold water to cover the eggs by about one inch. Bring the water to a rapid boil over medium high heat. When the water just begins to boil, remove the pan from the heat and cover tightly with a lid. After the appropriate cooking time, drain the water and remove the eggs.
