Using ice cubes and salt to ice down beer can take the beverage from room temperature to ice cold in a little over three minutes. The process is expedited due in part to the salt melting the ice quicker.
The salt requires heat in order to melt the ice and that heat is found in the beer itself. Thus, the rapid melting of the ice facilitates the faster cooling of the beer. Place the beer, ice and salt into a large bowl. Fill with water and stir until the salt is dissolved completely. Place the mixture in the freezer and in three minutes the beer should be ice cold.
