Although the method of cooking and size of the fillets can affect the cooking time, a typical 6-ounce mahi mahi fillet takes up to 7 minutes to cook when pan searing it. Other forms of cooking, such as grilling, broiling or baking can take up to 10 minutes to complete.
Mahi mahi is a firm-textured fish that is capable of standing up to high-heat cooking methods. The fish is very flavorful, almost sweet to the taste, and it requires very little seasoning other than salt, ground black pepper and some form of fat, such as butter or vegetable oil. The fish should flake easily when cooked and appear to be opaque.
