The length of time to boil chicken prior to grilling depends on the part of the chicken that will be grilled. Boiling or parboiling chicken before grilling is a good idea to ensure it will be cooked all the way through.
Chicken breasts should be boiled for about 10 minutes prior to grilling, while legs, thighs and other parts take approximately five minutes. Chicken wings take the longest at around 20 minutes of boiling time. Boiling should only be to partially cook the meat but not to cook it all the way through. Spices can be added to the water and marinade can be added after boiling.
