A latte contains double espresso or coffee in a preheated cup. It is capped off with steamed milk and froth. Tea can be substituted for the espresso or coffee.
Latte recipes come in many flavors, such as amaretto, hazelnut, and peppermint. A basic latte requires 1 shot of espresso and 2 shots of steamed milk. A shot of chocolate syrup is optional to add flavor. Pour the espresso into a cup and, if desired, add the chocolate syrup. Ladle the steamed milk with a spoon to maintain the bubbly froth, and pour 2/3 of the milk into the cup. With the remaining 1/3, top off the latte.
