What Kinds of Cakes Are Available at Kroger?

The three types of cakes that are available at Kroger stores include build-a-cakes, licensed cakes and special occasion cakes. The cakes come in four flavors that include white, chocolate, yellow and marble with the choice of whippy or buttercreme icing. The cakes are available in four different sizes: 8 inch round cakes, one-fourth sheet cakes, one-half sheet cakes and full sheet cakes.

The Kroger grocery store chain was founded in 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Bernard Henry Kroger, known commonly as Barney. He opened the store with his entire life savings of $372. In 1901, the grocery store became the first to run its own bakeries and became known as The Kroger Grocery and Baking Company. Kroger was the also the first to sell meat and groceries in the same building.

Through the years, the Kroger stores continued to grow in numbers. By 1908, Kroger had 136 stores opened in Ohio and Kentucky. Kroger showed dedication to its customers by continuing to do widespread market research and listening to what customers wanted. The 1970s saw Kroger providing unique items such as flowers, seafood shops and specialty cheeses along with groceries. As of 2014, Kroger has stores in 34 states and reported annual sales of $98 billion.
