Kinder chocolate eggs, also known as Kinder Surprise, are manufactured in India by an Italian company called Ferrero. They may be manufactured in other countries as well.
The eggs are made of a thin, hollow, chocolate shell encasing a plastic container with a toy inside. Kinder Surprise eggs were first produced in 1974. Since then over 30 billion eggs have been sold worldwide, containing over 8,000 different toys. Every year more than 100 new toys are introduced. The eggs are illegal in the United States because they are considered a choking hazard and may carry a fine of up to $2,500 per egg.
