Wendy's fast food restaurant chain was founded by Dave Thomas in 1969, named after Thomas' fourth child, Melinda Lou "Wendy" Thomas. The restaurant is best known for its square burgers and Frostys. In 2006, it was the third-largest hamburger fast food chain and made $2.469 billion in sales. In 2008, Wendy's merged with Triarc, the parent company of Arby's, becoming the Wendy's/Arby's Group. In 2011, Wendy's/Arby's Group divested most of its Arby's restaurants and renamed itself The Wendy's Company. In 2014, Wendy's employed 31,200 employees across 6,515 restaurants worldwide.
