White and brown long grain rice is very easy to cook. To prepare long grain rice in a saucepan, use the following steps.
Add two parts of water to a saucepan for each part of dry rice. This means to use 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of dry rice. Add a dash of salt to the water and bring it to a boil.
Add the rice to the boiling water. If desired, add a tablespoon of butter or margarine to the water.
Turn down the heat to a low setting and cover the saucepan. Let white rice steam for 15 minutes. Let brown rice steam for 45 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the element. Leave the rice covered and let it stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Use a fork to fluff the rice.
