The ingredients in Ronzoni's classic lasagna recipe include Italian sausage, Ronzoni lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, egg and pasta sauce. The recipe also calls for mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, parsley, nutmeg and sugar. Salt and pepper are used as well.
To make the dish, preheat an oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a skillet, brown 1 pound of Italian sausage, drain the fat and set the meat aside. While the sausage is cooking, cook the lasagna according to the directions on the package, drain and set aside.
In a large bowl, mix together two 15-ounce containers of ricotta cheese, an egg, a tablespoon of parsley flakes, 1/4 tablespoon of nutmeg and a teaspoon of sugar. Add salt and pepper to taste. In a 9- by 13-inch casserole dish, pour 1/3 of a 24-ounce jar of pasta sauce and spread it on the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles, topped with 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture and sausage and 1/3 of a cup of mozzarella. Repeat the layers, ending with sauce. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese on top.
Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, then take the dish out of the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
