Kraft did not publish the recipe for its Garlic Cheese Roll after the product was discontinued, but there is an imitation recipe which originated from a Kraft employee via Kraft's Facebook page. The recipe includes cheddar, Velveeta and cream cheeses, along with salt, garlic powder and liquid smoke.
The ingredient portions are 1 1/2 pounds of grated sharp cheddar cheese, 1/2 pound of Velveeta, and three ounces of room-temperature cream cheese. Also, a drop of Liquid Smoke, 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder and one teaspoon of salt. The spices are flexible and should be adjusted to taste.
To make the cheese roll, use a double boiler or a saucepan over low heat to melt and incorporate all of the ingredients together. Once it has been thoroughly mixed, store in containers of desired portion size to cool and set.
One alternative recipe mixes garlic powder and seasoning salt with an eight-ounce jar of Kraft Cheez Whiz. Another copycat recipe suggests melting together three ounces of Velveeta, three ounces of smoked cheddar and a teaspoon of garlic powder, then wrapping it in plastic after cooling slightly to form it into a roll. It can be refrigerated for immediate use, or frozen.
