Common pumpkin bread ingredients are canned unsweetened pumpkin, cloves, eggs, cinnamon and flour. Oil, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and sugar are usually found in pumpkin bread recipes as well. Ingredients vary depending on dietary restrictions and flavor preferences.
Make pumpkin bread by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease two loaf pans with butter, and dust with flour. In a bowl, combine 3 cups of sugar and 1 cup of oil. Mix in 4 lightly beaten eggs and 16 ounces of unsweetened canned pumpkin.
In another bowl, mix 3 1/2 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of salt, 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of baking powder together. Add in 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of allspice, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon of cloves. Fold the dry mix into the pumpkin mixture, along with 2/3 cup water. Stir until the mixture is uniform.
Evenly divide the mixture between the two loaf pans. Bake the batter for 30 to 40 minutes, and test with a fork. Remove the pans from the oven, and allow to cool before taking the bread out of the pans. If the bread is stuck in the pans, run a hot, dry butter knife along the edges to help loosen it up. Serve with fresh whipped cream.
