Food Network's recipe for Pulled Pork Barbecue includes a dry pork rub made with paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, dry mustard and coarse sea salt. A similar recipe from the Today website combines brown sugar, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, onion powder, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, fresh black pepper and ground cayenne.
In the Food Network recipe, the dry rub is applied to the pulled pork at least an hour before cooking. The pork is covered and placed in the refrigerator for this time. The Today recipe calls for searing the pork immediately after it has been rubbed. Both recipes also season the pork with a cider vinegar-based sauce.
