The filling for many apple pie recipes include apples, flour, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and unsalted butter. Pie crusts are typically made of flour, salt, white sugar, vegetable shortening, butter and ice water.
This apple pie filling can be used with either a premade or homemade pie crust.

- 7 cups apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 1 small lemon, juiced
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, diced

- Preheat the oven
- Mix the pie filling
- Assemble the pie
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a pie pan with pastry dough, or use prepared dough.
Combine the apple slices, lemon juice, flour, brown sugar, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon in a large bowl.
Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie pan. Add the diced pieces of butter to the top of the apple mixture. Cut vents into the pie top, brush the edges with egg wash and cover the apple mixture. Press, seal and trim the top and bottom pieces of dough. Brush the top of the pie with the egg wash.
Bake the pie on a cookie sheet for about 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender. Cool on a wire rack.
