A.1. Steak Sauce contains tomatoes, raisin paste, distilled vinegar, corn syrup, salt and crushed orange puree. Other ingredients include dried garlic and onion, spices and herbs, caramel color and xanthan gum. The spices and herbs are a secret blend that may include anchovy, white pepper and allspice.
Recipes using A.1. Steak Sauce include Kraft's A.1. Meatloaf and A.1. Cheesesteak Dip. To make the A.1. Meatloaf, start by combining half of an 8-ounce can of tomato sauce with 2 pounds ground beef, a chopped onion, 1 cup fresh bread crumbs, 1/3 cup A.1. Sauce, 2 beaten eggs and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Put the meatloaf into a 9-by-5 inch loaf pan, and bake for an hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. With 10 minutes left, top the meatloaf with the other half of the tomato sauce.
For the A.1. Cheesesteak Dip, cook 1/2 pound ground beef in a skillet until browned, and then drain the fat from the skillet. Add a chopped green pepper and 1/2 cup chopped onions to the beef and cook for four minutes. Add 1 pound cubed Velveeta cheese, 1/2 cup A.1. Sauce and 2 tablespoons milk. Cook for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted, and the dip is combined well. Serve the dip with cubes of bread, tortilla chips or vegetables.
