Is Hummus Good for You?

Hummus is a healthy dip that originated in the Middle East. Its main ingredient is chickpeas, or garbanzo beans, which are high in protein and fiber and have no saturated fat or cholesterol. Hummus is known to help control blood sugar levels and cholesterol.

The other ingredients of hummus include sesame paste, olive oil, garlic and lemon juice. Sesame seed is also a good source of protein and calcium. Olive oil is a healthy oil that promotes heart health and controls cholesterol. Hummus provides iron, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and folate. Eating hummus with bread serves as a complete meal with good carbohydrates, protein, fiber and vitamins.
