Some hot rum drink recipes include two versions of hot buttered rum by Rachael Ray and Emeril Lagasse. Other recipes include hot buttered rum using vanilla extract and rum hot toddy.
To make hot buttered rum, beat together 1 stick of softened unsalted butter, 2 cups of light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of grated nutmeg, and 1 pinch of ground cloves until smooth. Season with 1 pinch of salt, and place in the refrigerator. Once it firms up, spoon out the mixture into small mugs, and add 3 ounces of rum and boiling water. Stir until the butter mixture melts, and serve.
Another recipe uses 2/3 cup of dark brown sugar in conjunction with 1/4 cup of honey. Replace the dark rum with spiced rum, and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
Make a rum hot toddy by pouring 2 tablespoons of spiced rum and 4 ounces of hot water into a mug. Drizzle in 1 tablespoon of honey, the juice from 1/4 of a lemon and cinnamon sugar. Stir until the ingredients are combined, and serve.
Another recipe uses only 1 small slice of soft butter blended with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, vanilla extract to taste and optional spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. Place these ingredients in the bottom of a mug, and add the dark rum and hot water.
