Holiday Chex mix recipes include the original savory Chex mix and red velvet Chex mix, a sweet treat. These mixes offer fun snacks for holiday parties, celebrations or other special occasions.
The original Chex mix requires 3 cups each of Wheat Chex, Rice Chex and Corn Chex, and 1 cup each of mixed nuts, bite-sized pretzels and bagel chips. Begin by mixing the cereal, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips in a large microwave-safe bowl. In a smaller microwave-safe bowl, melt 6 tablespoons of butter and mix in 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 3/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1 1/2 teaspoons of seasoned salt. Pour the butter and spices over the cereal mixture and stir until it is evenly coated. Microwave for five to six minutes, taking it out to stir after every two moniutes. Spread the mix on an absorbent surface to cool, and store it in an airtight container.
For red velvet Chex mix, place 6 cups of chocolate Chex cereal in a large microwave-safe bowl. In a second bowl, add 1/3 cup of butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of corn syrup, 1 cup of devil's food cake mix and one drop of red food coloring. Heat the second bowl until the mixture boils, pour it over the cereal and mix to coat. Spread the mixture on wax paper to cool while you heat 1/2 cup of canned cream cheese frosting in a microwave-safe bowl for 20 seconds on high. Drizzle the frosting over the cereal, allow the mix to cool and store it in a sealed container.
