Combine 1/2 cup of water and 1 1/2 teaspoons of cornstarch and cook until thickened. Brush some of the mixture over the loaves, bake them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, then brush with the remaining mixture and bake until lightly browned.

To make basic homemade bread, dissolve 1/4 ounce of yeast in 2 1/4 cups of warm water. Add 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of canola oil and 3 cups of flour. Mix and add enough flour to form a soft dough. Knead, cover and let rise until doubled.
