As of late 2014, the four top-selling flavors of Lay's potato chips include original, barbecue, cheddar and sour cream, and sour cream and onion. These traditional flavors continue to outrank the exotic flavors dreamed up by contestants in the three yearly "Do Us a Flavor" competitions.
Lay's has produced several varieties and flavors since the original chip came along in the 1930s, and in 2013, the company began an annual competition inviting the public to invent flavors. The winner wins $1 million. Past winner flavors include cheesy garlic bread and kettle-cooked Wasabi ginger. The 2015 four finalist flavors are kettle-cooked Greektown gyro, wavy West Coast truffle fries, Southern biscuits and gravy, and New York Reuben.
