Heavy cream is used in some classic chocolate fondue recipes. For instance, a traditional chocolate fondue recipe on the Food Network's website comes from "Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels." It has just four ingredients: heavy cream, premium semisweet chocolate, pure vanilla extract and brandy.
Cusinart's website has a standard fondue recipe that calls for whole milk, heavy cream, bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips, pure vanilla extract and sea salt. Paula Deen's classic fondue recipe at the Food Network uses whipping cream instead of heavy cream. The two creams are very similar, although heavy cream has about 36 percent more milk fat than whipping cream.
