Hearty Beef Chili Recipe to Please Everyone Around the Table

When looking for a no-fail beef recipe to serve up a hearty meal for dinner, this beef chili recipe comes in handy and is packed with flavor.


1. Finely chop the large onion.

2. In a large skill, brown the ground beef with chopped onions and garlic powder. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring contents occasionally until ground beef is fully cooked.

3. Using a strainer, drain the juices from the skillet and discard.

4. Place the beef, onions and garlic in Dutch oven.

5. Add in cumin, oregano leaves, salt, pepper and tomato juice to the chili mixture. Heat contents thoroughly for 10 to 15 minutes on medium heat.

6. Using a sharp kitchen knife, cut the celery, including leaves of stalk, into thin slices.

7. Dice the large green pepper. You may opt for yellow or red peppers for color variation if you wish.

8. Add the diced green pepper, sliced celery and undrained dark red kidney beans to the chili mixture.

9. Add in chili powder and sugar. Sugar will help to bring out the natural sweetness of the tomato juice and spices of your chili.

10. Continue cooking all of the contents over a medium heat setting, stirring often so that the chili mixture does not burn to the bottom of your Dutch oven.

11. As your chili simmers, the juice will begin to thicken. Allow the chili mixture to continue simmering, stirring often until desired consistency is reached.

12. Remove the Dutch oven from heat and serve hot.

13. Allow any leftover chili to cool down to room temperature. Place in an airtight storage container and refrigerate. Chili will hold in your refrigerator for up to three days.


After ladling the chili into serving bowls, garnish with shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped onions or chopped green onion for added flavors.

To kick up the heat, add diced jalapeno peppers or chili peppers in place of the green pepper while cooking.
